Primarily a travel and nature photographer, though more and more people are asking for family portraits or could their images be processed, Malcolm's principal interests are of Canada's woodlands, lakes and mountains... English cottages with gardens, temples and shrines in Japan, around Kyoto or Kamakura... Mexico's Yucatan Coast with its temple ruins, Tulum and Chichen Itza. Attracted to the deserts of the great American Southwest and the canyons, the saguaro forests, he journeys once yearly for more landscapes of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Arizona Sonora wilderness, Yellowstone and Grand Teton Parks. Well travelled in Asian countries - Japan, Korea, Manchuria and India due to the nature of his work, Malcolm has resided in Tokyo and London. For the last 30 years he has made Canada his home. He stresses however that he never leaves Ontario in the Autumn, as the Fall colours are so beautiful. Following early influences in arts, music and history, his transition into around the world travel photography developed as a logical progression, and is now a source of income. The Nikon F camera was his original workhorse of the time, using 35mm film and a traditional darkroom. Then he moved to a Medium Format 6x6cm camera. However, the dawn of the digital era brought a decision to move away from film forever... and to embrace the new digital technology. Malcolm has digital camera equipment for capture and storage, back at home in Niagara he then prints via computer and large format Epson printers, using Ultra Chrome inks and Epson papers. All the work is his own, no more letters from the film company saying "Sorry Malcolm, we ruined yr prints, here is a free roll of film" Been there, done that....all that is gone thank goodness. Today Malcolm works out of a home based studio gallery in Niagara, frequently calling at downtown Toronto, nearby cities are Hamilton, Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake.
